Lebensader-Taugl-am-i-at-home-here

Lebensader-Taugl-Odlandschrecke-2The Tauglgries is the only place in Salzburg where the blue-winged grasshopper (Oedipoda caerulescens) could once be found. However, it is believed to have been extinct in this region for several years. Its habitat has been too severely restricted, exploited or destroyed by people.

Lebensader-Taugl-Oedipoda-2 The blue-winged grasshopper requires gravel soils with only sparse vegetation cover. Sunny, warm, dry, and rocky places above the river would be ideal. This grasshopper is well-camouflaged. It only displays its brilliant blue wings briefly while in flight. Perhaps we will find this jewel of the Salzburg animal world in the Taugl region once again.
