Natura2000

A management plan is the basis for the monitoring of the conservation status and for the obligatory reporting to the European Commission.

The current situation and the development goal were described in a management plan and presented to the public in 2012. The plans were drawn up in close collaboration with the property owners, ÖBF AG (Austrian Federal Forests), the communities and the Bad Vigaun Tourist Association. Lastly, a Nature Conservancy (Schutzgebietsbetreuung) was set up by the Province of Salzburg.

The focuses of the Management for the reserve are:

  • The conservation of the wild river landscape - no construction on the banks, allow the natural dynamics of the bedload to prevail and leave both stones and driftwood in the streambed.
  • Visitor management in the river zone - temporary bans on access to the breeding territories of the little ringed plover and company.
  • Landscaping measures to conserve the habitats of grasshoppers (Chorthippus pullus and Oedipoda caerulescens as index species)
  • Natural forestry on the part of the owners (structural elements, dead wood, reducing the number of spruces, etc.)
  • Monitoring (surveys of the key target and indicator species in order to monitor the development of the region and make any necessary adjustments in the management).
  • Information for visitors to the European reserve
